I’ve always been a big fan of the Super Mario Bros. 2 Overworld theme, but putting it together in an arrangement for a classical guitar quartet just puts me over the edge. More importantly, this was my gateway video into the great collection of music by - bear with me now - PoopPoopFart (I know, I know). In any event, his collaboration with SoundsLikeRemmy was particularly enjoyable (despite me not being a bigĀ Jason Mraz fan). I’d strongly suggest checking him (them) out!
As if Super Mario Bros. Crossover wasn’t awesome enough already, there’s an update coming in a couple of days that’ll make it even better. I won’t lie to you, I’d give my best friend’s firstborn child if this came to consoles, handhelds, or even my iPhone. Of course, that’ll happen when pigs fly, and so it’s BACK TO THE LAB! These gene’s aren’t going to splice themselves! [From Kotaku]
Back when I was still an engineering student (before I discovered I was deathly allergic to applied science) I would skip class from time to time just so I could sit around my dorm room and play video games. I never thought that one day I would be able to use a competition associated with the IEEE to rationalize that behavior, but it seems that day has arrived. In association with the IEEE conference on Computational Intelligence and Game (CIG) a call has been put out to creative engineers to design an AI program to navigate Super Mario levels. Shown above is the winner of last year’s inaugural competition. This year, the assignment has widened to include level generation as well as level navigation, and there are already some neat results. Of course, in order to actually enter I would no doubt need all the skills I would have learned in those classes I skipped, so instead - as with all things - I’ll settle for blogging about it wistfully on the Internet.
